Powermaster 160 ft./lb High Torque Starter Mini Starter for Ford Small Block Engines with a Maximum of 10.5:1 Compression Ratio
157 Tooth Count, 3/4 Inch Depth, Hitachi Style, 4.4:1 Gear Reduction
This starter fits applications with automatic transmissions using a 157 or 164 tooth ring gear or manual transmissions using a 157 tooth ring gear (Normally 5-speeds). This replaces OEM starters with a 'nose' that extends 2-3/8" past the mounting surface.
You can’t always depend on choosing a Small Block Ford starter by application only. As a general rule, the 164T ring gear on M/T’s use the 3/8” depth starter along with the larger 4.130 I.D. starter registry (block plate). The 164T on A/T’s, and the 157T ring gear on M/T and A/T’s use the 3/4” depth starter along with the smaller 4.084” I.D. starter registry (block plate). Although the 3/4” depth starter is usually identified as an A/T starter this in not always the case. If you have a M/T with a 157 tooth ring gear, it uses the 3/4” depth starter. With OEM stock bell housings you must always have the correct matching flywheel for the bell housing. i.e. if you have a bell housing that requires a 164T, you can’t use a 157T in its place. Aftermarket bell housings, McLeod & Lakewood have a punch out for the starter that allow you to use either flywheel. Quick Time specs for the 157T only. If you’re not sure what you have, always measure the starter registry hole, the ring gear depth, and count the teeth on the ring gear.
